The Secret Ingredient To Assessing a Career Change:

Does It Let You Leave Your Mark?

Will Your New Career Let You Leave Your Mark? Assessing a Career Change For Fit.

Assessing a career change requires that you figure
out, up front, which career path lets you leave your
professional mark, allowing you to bring your
passion, skills, and knowledge to the table.

Let's face it.

  • You come to the table with an array of skills and assets.

  • And you want to make sure that your career change gives you the opportunity to use all of you and allow you to leave your mark in your career world.

Don't blow it by making a career change that leaves you wanting more.

Learn what you need to know about assessing a career change for passion and life fit.

When you begin assessing your need for a career change you've got to start with an end in mind.

So many times, career changers make a fundamental mistake by placing a tremendous amount of emphasis on chasing a particular job title.

  • While this is a great third or fourth step, it is not the first step towards assessing your need for a career change.

The first thing you must do when assessing a career change is to assess for what fits you.

Here's the thing that most career changers do that endangers their career: they leap before they look.

  • They scour the internet or the local want ads to find some company that will rescue them from their current distress.

  • They don't really pay close attention to what it is that they want out of it nor do they stop to really give themselves a hard look over to determine what it is that they do best.

    • Nooo. They find open positions and then crammed their cliche-laden resume into as many emails as possible.

  • And then they sit back and wait...and wait...and wait...trying to figure out why no one has yet to call them.

    • They don't realize that no calls are coming because they did nothing to tout what it is that's so special about them that the hiring manager just had to give them a call.

    • They didn't realize that the last thing the hiring manager really needs is to scan the list of 1000 or so resumes that all look and sound alike.

    • They didn't realize that all the hiring manager needed was someone who could help out.

      • Someone who had a willingness and skill-base needed to come in and hop right into problem-solving mode.

      • That hiring manager needed someone who knew how to clearly, succintly, and distinctly convey that he or she was THE answer of choice because they were ready to come in, roll up there sleeves and help to move that company into a smoother sailing position.

So, when assessing your need for a career change...don't fall into the trap of other job lookers, sending out the same cliche-laden resume as the next person and then hoping to get a call back.

    1. Assessing a career change starts with you understanding what it is that you bring to your potential customer that will help them keep their business afloat.

    2. Assessing your career change starts with taking a good hard look at:

      • At who you are,

      • What you have to offer, and

      • Then packaging in a resume and your own personal brand in such a way that you clearly stand out from the pack.

    3. Assessing your career change requires that you

      • Take a strong look at what it is that your future hiring manager needs and

      • Finding a way to highlight how you meet and exceed those needs.

    4. Assessing your career change requires that you begin to look at yourself from your future employee's perspective:

      • Know upfront, what it is that will make him what to call you back.

      • Spend your time combing your resume and prepping for your interview in such a way that you are properly positioned to walk into your new position with a strong sense of let-me-get-the-job-done-for-you stance of action.

Here's to your career change success!
