Changing careers or your job can be a daunting thing to do, Searching for a new job can be difficult. there are many unknowns when it comes to making a change. The questions people often ask themselves include:
1. Will my new job be better or worse than the one i already have.
2. Will i get on with my new work colleagues.
3. Do i have a better future in my new job or career.
4. Do i have a good chance of advancement or promotion in my new job or career.
5. Will i still like the new job or career after 6 months, 12 months, 2 years etc
It is best to go into your new career or job with as much knowledge about that industry and the employer as possible. To do this you need to do your research. First start with researching the career , find out things like how long people stay in the industry, their pay rates, the demand for this sort of employee etc. You can find out this sort of information by speaking to people in the industry or related industries, speak to both employers and employees, this will give you 2 different perspectives. You can also call up and speak with industry bodies, trade unions and other groups. Next you need to find out as much as you can about your perspective employer and to do this you need to also do research by calling and speaking to people such as current employees, past employees if you can find them, industry bodies etc. You can also Google the company and see what comes up.
Once you have done this research and decided that you are making the right move then it is time to get on with finding a job and preparing your resume. Two powerful ways of getting a new job is to:
1. Do a Search for the job you are interested in eg Accounting Jobs or Admin Jobs on the best job sites in the industry.
2. Post your resume on a resume search site, this allows employers to search the resumes and can save you a lot of time.
